NMJHSRA Membership Letter 2012 WELCOME... We are happy that you have joined NMJHSRA for the 2012 rodeo
season. This newsletter will contain most of the information that you will need in order to compete at the rodeos. Please
remember that the most current information is always available on the website at www.nmwjhr.com. Should you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact one of the board members, and
they will be happy to help you.
Please download the entry blank off
the "Forms" tab from the website. This form will need to be used to enter all of the rodeos.
Back numbers,
membership card, ground rules, and other information will be provided to you upon check-in at the first rodeo. New rulebooks
will be handed out at check-in only if you are a new member. Otherwise, you need to use your rulebook from last year. If you
are a new member and would like to go over the rulebook ahead of time, it is available on the NHSRA website at www.nhsra.com . Please be advised that you are responsible for knowing the general rules, event rules, and ground
rules before you compete in any event.
ENTRIES...
Entries must be postmarked at least 10 days prior to the date of the rodeo being entered. Entry fees may only
be paid by cashier's check or money order made payable to NMJHSRA. Be sure to double check entries, fees, and events entered
before mailing your entry to Crystal Bell, rodeo secretary. This will save Crystal and yourselves a lot of time!
DRESS
CODE...
The NHSRA insists that each State association follow the rules, including dress code. Be sure and read
the rulebook and be familiar with all of the general rules and event rules that apply to you as a contestant. It is important
that all contestants, and any contestant's helper or parent helping in the arena be dressed in full dress code,
including cowboy hat and cowboy boots.
STEER BAREBACK AND SADDLE BRONC...
There is
a possibility that we may be holding steer bareback and steer bronc riding events this year. These events will be strictly
exhibition; you will not get points or prizes. More information will follow if the board decides to go ahead with either of
these events.
VOLUNTEERS...
We are still looking for volunteers to
help time the rodeos. If you are willing and able to help, please e-mail Anjie at anjie.silva@gmail.com.
Contestants, we are in need of volunteers
for student event directors. Self-nominations will take place during check-in and voting will take place at the mandatory
membership meeting in Alamogordo at 8:00 am March 24, 2012.
RODEOS...
Each
weekend will consist of one rodeo on Saturday and one rodeo on Sunday, with a total of eight regular season rodeos. The finals
will be two go-rounds and a short go. The short go will consist of the top ten in each event for the year after the points
from the two go-rounds of finals have been combined with the points of the eight regular season rodeos. The top four of each
event after the short go and average points are added will qualify to go the National Junior High School Rodeo Association
finals in Gallup, New Mexico, June 24-30, 2012.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFO...
Callbacks for the first rodeo will
be Wednesday, March 21. Please check the website first before calling Crystal. After the first rodeo, Crystal will call you
if she doesnÕt have your entry form.
If you are trying to find a ribbon roping or team roping partner,
please e-mail your contact information to Crystal at cbell@plateautel.net. She is making a list of contestants seeking partners in those events and
might be able to assist you. If you don't have a ribbon roping or team roping partner when you enter
for Alamogordo, please do not pay the fees for that event. If Crystal is able to find you a partner, you can pay her by cash
in Alamogordo. Also, please note on the bottom of your entry that you are in need of a header, heeler, roper, or runner.
Quinn Green will be at the Grants and Gallup to take pictures. He travels many miles and works hard to get nice photos
of the contestants, so please support him. If you know of anyone who would be interested in taking pictures at Alamogordo
or Lovington, please email Anjie at anjie.silva@gmail.com, and I will try to set something up.
Owen
Washburn is our stock contractor for the rough stock this year. Klint Rodgers is our stock contractor for the calves, steers,
and goats. Our main judge this year will be LJ Braught. If you ever have any questions concerning the rules, he would be more
than happy to visit with you.
We will be participating the Dodge raffle ticket sales this year. Each contestant
is required to sell a minimum of one book of raffle tickets, which will be due by the Gallup rodeo. Your first book of tickets
will be in your packet at check-in. This is an excellent fundraiser for the association, so please do your best and sell as
many tickets as possible.
As of this moment, we do not have any Rodeo Council monies this year, so the
administration and gate fees for all contestants are no longer waived on the entry form. If this changes, we will let you
know.
This year, contestants will be getting sweatshirts again at the finals. However, if you would like
to order one for anyone else in your family, you will need to pre-order these on the order form, which will be included in
your packet at check-in. We had a lot of sweatshirts left over last year, and we need to get a better count.
Please remember that you must have the following paperwork turned in before check-in at the Alamogordo rodeo:
- School
eligibility form
- Copies of both your 1st semester and 3rd 9-weeks report cards (if available)
- Emergency medical treatment form (must be notarized)
Please take care of your business
in a timely manner. You have plenty of notice, and this will save all of us a lot of trouble if you can do your part to ensure
everything runs smoothly.
Please welcome our new Pole Bending director, Orlando Martinez. The previous Girls
Goat Tying director had to resign, do Denise Meeks volunteered to switch events for us. Thanks!
I look forward
to meeting all of the contestants and their families! Let's make it a great year!
